Dishonored 2 Gets Surprise Update 9 Years After Launch

Surprise Patch for Dishonored 2 on PC, PlayStation, and Xbox

Dishonored 2, a critically acclaimed Bethesda title, has received a small, unexpected update across PC, PlayStation, and Xbox platforms. This minor patch primarily focuses on bug fixes and language updates. The update's size is relatively insignificant (230MB on Steam, requiring a full 40GB re-download on Xbox), suggesting it doesn't include major gameplay changes.

Developed by Arkane Lyon (currently working on Marvel's Blade), Dishonored 2, released in late 2016, introduced Emily Kaldwin as a playable protagonist, expanding upon the original's acclaimed gameplay and level design. The studio's sister studio, Arkane Austin, unfortunately, was part of the 2024 Xbox studio closures.

The lack of a performance enhancement, particularly a much-requested 60 FPS mode, has disappointed some fans. While other Arkane titles offer 60 FPS support on newer consoles, Dishonored 2 remains locked at 30 FPS. The possibility of a future 60 FPS patch, perhaps coinciding with the game's tenth anniversary in 2026, remains speculative.

The future of the Dishonored franchise is uncertain, with a third mainline entry still unannounced and the closure of Arkane Austin impacting development timelines. Arkane Lyon's current focus on Marvel's Blade further contributes to the anticipation surrounding any potential future Dishonored installment.
