Diablo 4 Expansion Delay: Post-Vessel of Hatred Content Expected 2026+

By ConnorFeb 26,2025

Diablo 4 fans anticipating a new expansion in 2025 will need to adjust their expectations. Diablo general manager Rod Fergusson recently announced at the DICE Summit in Las Vegas that the next major expansion won't arrive until 2026.

Fergusson's announcement followed a discussion about improving community engagement through content roadmaps, mirroring the strategies of Diablo Immortal and World of Warcraft. A roadmap detailing Diablo 4's 2025 seasonal content and updates is forthcoming, but the 2026 expansion will not be included. He stated that this roadmap, arriving before Season 8, will at least provide players with a clear view of the year's planned content.

The delay, while not fully explained, hints at challenges encountered during the development of the "Vessel of Hatred" expansion. Originally slated for a 12-month release cycle, it ultimately launched 18 months after the game's initial release. Fergusson attributed this to the team's iterative process, prioritizing player feedback and live content adjustments. This led to temporary resource reallocation away from "Vessel of Hatred," causing a ripple effect that delayed subsequent content, including the next expansion.

Diablo 4 recently launched its "Season of Witchcraft," introducing significant new witchcraft abilities, a fresh questline, and more. The base game itself received a 9/10 rating, praised for its exceptional endgame and progression systems.
