Conquering Lu Bu in Dynasty Warriors: Origins: A Comprehensive Guide
The game frequently warns against engaging Lu Bu, but victory is achievable with strategy and preparation. This guide details how to defeat this formidable foe.
Should You Fight Lu Bu?
While challenging, defeating Lu Bu offers significant rewards: bragging rights, potential story progression (Shu and Wei campaigns), the "Strongest" trophy, and the game's ultimate weapon, the halberd (post-game).
Phase 1: Mounted Lu Bu
Before the battle, equip a multi-hit weapon to stagger Lu Bu, and Battle Arts with quick activation, wide range, and low Bravery cost (e.g., Falcon Flurry, Mad Blade Rush, Absconding Slash, Flying Dragon Slash). Essential accessories include those boosting health and defense (Divine Bird’s Wing and Divine Turtle’s Shell). A weapon granting Bravery on Perfect Evades is crucial.
This phase involves Lu Bu on Red Hare. He charges frequently, but pauses occasionally. Exploit these pauses to unleash Battle Arts, then retreat. His attacks, excluding Red Hare's ground-pound, have limited area of effect, making evasion relatively easy. Once his health reaches 80%, he dismounts.
Phase 2: Unmounted Lu Bu
On foot, Lu Bu is incredibly aggressive. His attacks are rapid, and he frequently dashes across the battlefield, becoming temporarily unstaggerable when surrounded by a red aura. His charge attacks come in sets of three; evade accordingly. He also attempts grabs; evade these as well.
His most dangerous move is a three-arrow volley after an orange aura. Use a ranged Battle Art like Absconding Slash to counter; close-range arts are fatal. Maintain a charged Musou gauge for invincibility during critical moments. Aggressively attack during openings to quickly fill your Battle Arts meter and break his Fortitude. Prioritize close-range combat for better reaction time.
Phase 3: Lu Bu's Musou Rage
Depleting Lu Bu's health triggers his Musou Rage. He becomes unstaggerable and unleashes relentless attacks. The objective is to deplete his Fortitude before he uses his Musou attack; otherwise, the phase restarts. Utilize all available resources – Musou attacks, Battle Arts, and rapid attacks – to overwhelm him.
Victory
By employing these tactics, you can overcome Lu Bu in Dynasty Warriors: Origins, currently available on PS5, PC, and Xbox Series X/S.
