CD Projekt Red has revealed Cyberpunk 2077: Ultimate Edition will occupy 64GB on the Nintendo Switch 2. While smaller than the Xbox/PS5 versions (100-110GB), this still consumes a massive 25% of the Switch 2's 256GB internal storage.
Launch Details and Storage Concerns
Launching alongside Switch 2 on June 5, Cyberpunk 2077 will offer both physical (64GB game card) and digital versions. Unlike some Switch 2 titles that may contain download codes instead of full games, this will be a complete physical release.
This raises valid concerns about the Switch 2's storage capacity. While 256GB represents a significant upgrade from the original Switch's meager 32GB, modern games are growing rapidly.
The Storage Challenge
Cyberpunk 2077's 64GB footprint dwarfs even the largest original Switch games like Tears of the Kingdom (16GB). Upcoming titles like Mario Kart World will likely demand similar space, quickly filling the internal storage.
The solution? Expandable storage - but with a catch. The Switch 2 exclusively uses pricier microSD Express cards, rendering existing microSD cards obsolete.
Memory Card Options and Pricing
Several compatible options are already available:
- SanDisk 256GB microSD Express ($59.99)
- Lexar 256GB Play PRO ($49.99)
- Lexar 1TB Play PRO ($199.99)
- Lexar 512GB Play PRO ($99.99)
Nintendo plans to offer official branded cards through SanDisk and Samsung partnerships, likely at premium prices. The growing microSD Express market may eventually see price drops, but current demand is high with some options already out of stock.
