TPM 2.0 and Secure Boot Become Mandatory for CoD Black Ops 7

Activision, the developer behind Call of Duty: Black Ops 7, has announced that future titles will require TPM 2.0 (Trusted Platform Module) and Secure Boot. In an August 6 update on the official Call of Duty website, Team Ricochet—the anti-cheat division—outlined its strategy to combat cheating.
According to Activision's support documentation, TPM 2.0 delivers hardware-based security for Windows PCs. Secure Boot complements this by ensuring only authorized software runs during system startup.

These security measures are already employed by other major multiplayer titles like the upcoming Battlefield 6 and Riot Games' Valorant. They effectively counter disruptive cheats such as aimbots and wallhacks that undermine fair gameplay.
Activision's initiative launches alongside Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 and Warzone Season 05. While currently optional for existing titles, players will receive notifications about future mandatory implementation, particularly with Black Ops 7's release.
Team Ricochet emphasized, "These hardware-level protections are fundamental to our anti-cheat campaign. We encourage all players to enable them now." Configuration guidance is available through Activision's Player Support resources.
Legacy Systems Face Compatibility Challenges

Although optional for Black Ops 6 and Warzone, these security features will be essential for Black Ops 7. This requirement unfortunately excludes older systems, as TPM 2.0 and Secure Boot only support PCs with 8th-generation Intel Core or AMD Ryzen 2000-series processors and newer.
Responding to performance concerns, Activision clarified that these features operate during system and game initialization without affecting gameplay performance.

The community has responded positively to these measures, especially considering Battlefield 6's successful open beta which implemented similar requirements.
Call of Duty: Black Ops 7 will launch on PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, and PC. For ongoing updates about the game, explore our coverage below.
