Civilization 7 Dev Firaxis Says 'There's Hope for Gandhi, Yet'

By JoshuaFeb 20,2025

Civilization VII's launch has left many veteran players asking: where's Gandhi? A staple of the series since 1991, his absence is notable. However, according to Civilization VII lead designer Ed Beach, Gandhi's return is likely, but as DLC.

Beach confirmed that the team hasn't forgotten past leaders. He cited the initial absence of Great Britain and other historically significant civilizations in the base game as a similar situation. The Crossroads of the World Collection DLC, releasing in March 2025, will add Carthage and Great Britain, followed by Bulgaria and Nepal.

Beach explained that Firaxis prioritizes a balance between established favorites and fresh additions. He pointed to the omission of Mongolia and Persia from previous Civilization titles as precedent. While some popular choices are initially excluded, a long-term plan exists for incorporating beloved leaders like Gandhi.

Therefore, while not present at launch, Gandhi's inclusion in future Civilization VII content remains a strong possibility.
