Chrono Trigger Celebrates 30 Years as a Legendary JRPG

Chrono Trigger Reaches 30th Anniversary Milestone

Square Enix has announced that Chrono Trigger, one of gaming's most influential JRPGs, has officially reached its 30th anniversary. The celebration will feature multiple projects launching throughout the coming year, with details yet to be fully revealed – suggesting the possibility of expanded media beyond just gaming.

This announcement has reignited longtime fan discussions about potential remasters or console ports. Despite its reputation as one of the greatest JRPGs ever made, Chrono Trigger has never seen a comprehensive remake – its last official re-release was a PlayStation port in 1999, with subsequent mobile and PC versions failing to satisfy demand for a definitive modern edition.

Anniversary Concert Announcement

The first confirmed celebration is a special livestream concert featuring the game's legendary soundtrack. Scheduled for March 14th at 7:00 PM PT, this musical event will run through the night on Square Enix's YouTube channel – offering fans worldwide a nostalgic trip through one of gaming's most beloved scores.

For newer RPG fans, Chrono Trigger represents a landmark collaboration between legendary creators: Final Fantasy's Hironobu Sakaguchi, Dragon Quest's Yuji Horii, and Dragon Ball artist Akira Toriyama. Originally launched in 1995 for Super Nintendo, the game takes players through an unforgettable time-hopping adventure spanning prehistoric eras, medieval kingdoms, and apocalyptic futures – with branching story paths and a revolutionary (for its time) combat system.

While Square Enix hasn't confirmed any remake plans, the anniversary announcement leaves room for speculation. The company has encouraged fans to follow official updates on the game's X (formerly Twitter) page for forthcoming reveals.
