Cheat Developer Claims Shutdown, Call of Duty Players Remain Skeptical

By IsabellaMay 14,2025

The Call of Duty cheat provider, Phantom Overlay, has announced its imminent shutdown. In a statement shared on Telegram, the provider emphasized that this closure is not an exit scam and reassured customers that no external forces influenced this decision. They committed to keeping their systems online for an additional 32 days to ensure users with 30-day keys can fully utilize their purchases. Additionally, partial refunds will be offered to those with lifetime keys.

The shutdown of Phantom Overlay could have significant ripple effects throughout the cheating ecosystem, as many other cheat providers rely on its systems. This development has sparked varied reactions among the gaming community. One enthusiastic gamer on X, formerly known as Twitter, expressed optimism about the impact on Season 3's cheat update, stating, "I can't believe it!! Does this mean the Season 3 cheat update is really gonna work?!" However, skepticism remains, with another commenter suggesting a rebranding strategy: "They're just rebranding. They have the same provider under multiple names/brands. The cheaters won't stop."

Will You Return to Warzone for Verdansk? ----------------------------------------

Activision recently acknowledged that its anti-cheat measures in Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 fell short at the launch of Season 1, particularly impacting Ranked Play. Despite initial promises to remove cheaters from matches within an hour, the company admitted these efforts "did not hit the mark." However, they've since improved their response, with the Ricochet Anti-Cheat system now more effectively banning cheaters, having recently removed over 19,000 accounts.

The ongoing issue of cheating has been a major concern for the competitive multiplayer community, leading to criticism of Activision's handling of the situation. The severity of the problem prompted the company to allow console Ranked players to disable crossplay with PC players starting with Season 2. While cheating is a widespread issue across many games, it has been particularly challenging for Activision since the launch of the free-to-play Call of Duty Warzone in 2020. Despite significant investments in anti-cheat technology and legal actions against cheat developers, skepticism about the effectiveness of the Ricochet system persists among fans.

In other news, anticipation is building as more details about the return of the beloved Verdansk map in Call of Duty Warzone are expected to be revealed on March 10.
