LEGO Unveils Exquisite Trotting Lantern for 2025 Lunar New Year
LEGO is celebrating the Year of the Snake (2025) with three new sets, including a stunning replica of a traditional trotting lantern (#80116). This 1295-piece set, retailing at $129.99, is available now at Amazon and the LEGO Store.
This intricate model surpasses initial expectations. Its exterior is lavishly detailed, featuring red lanterns, gold accents, and exquisitely rendered cloud and rock scenes on the lantern walls.

Construction is a layered process, adding details upon details, creating a sense of anticipation and delight reminiscent of the LEGO Carousel.
The lantern incorporates a clever mechanism inspired by historical trotting lanterns. A rotating rod activates a light brick, projecting a rotating image onto the lantern's side. While the advertised wall projection feature is somewhat blurry, the internal mechanism is a fascinating detail.
The lantern's upper section opens to reveal three charming miniature scenes: a dumpling stall, a decorations stall, and a shadow puppet theater. Five minifigures, including one with a snake costume, and various accessories (dumplings, red envelope, shadow puppet, chopsticks) enhance the playability.
While the light-up feature may not fully justify the price for some, the aesthetic appeal and hidden dioramas make this a stunning Lunar New Year centerpiece. Its intricate detail and hidden surprises make it a captivating build, exceeding its 9+ age rating.
