Matajuegos' surrealist documentary game, Atuel, is coming to PC and Android later this year! Pre-registration is now open on Steam, with a Google Play listing expected soon.
Originally launched on itch.io in September 2022, Atuel quickly gained recognition for its unique blend of documentary storytelling, experimental gameplay, and breathtaking visuals. The game's innovative approach earned it the IndieCade 2022 ‘Innovation in Experience Design Award,’ along with numerous other accolades. It has also been showcased at prestigious events like the Marché du Film in Cannes and the Smithsonian American Art Museum.

Exploring the Atuel River Valley
Atuel immerses players in the stunning yet climate-change-affected Atuel River Valley in Argentina. The gameplay is less about traditional challenges and more about experiencing the ecosystem. Players shapeshift into various animals and elements, becoming part of the landscape itself – one moment soaring as a bird, the next flowing as the river.
The game features interviews with historians, biologists, geologists, and local residents, offering a compelling narrative about the region's history, current state, and uncertain future. Matajuegos collaborated with The 12.01 Project, an international documentary team, to bring these stories to life.
The game's visuals, inspired by the Cuyo desert, create an almost otherworldly atmosphere.
While Android pre-registration is pending, you can find more information on the Steam page or the official website. The mobile version will include seven new languages and full controller support.
