Anointing Guide for Path of Exile 2

By CarterMay 14,2025

In *Path of Exile 2*, enhancing your character's abilities through anointing is a powerful strategy that can significantly impact your gameplay. Like many action RPGs, the game offers various methods to boost your power, but some are more straightforward than others. Here's a comprehensive guide on how to anoint in *Path of Exile 2*.

How To Get Distilled Emotions in Path of Exile 2

Anointing your amulets and Waystones becomes possible later in the game, as it requires Distilled Emotions, which you can acquire from Delirium Maps. If you're familiar with the first game, you'll recognize Distilled Emotions as similar to Blight Oils. There are ten types: Despair, Disgust, Envy, Fear, Greed, Guilt, Ire, Isolation, Paranoia, and Suffering.

The primary method to obtain Distilled Emotions is through completing Delirium Maps, which reward you with a random assortment of these emotions. Additionally, you can acquire them through currency exchange or the trade market.

To upgrade your Distilled Emotions, use the Reforging Bench. Combining three of the same type will yield an upgraded version of that emotion, allowing you to tailor your collection to your needs.

For those seeking a challenge, Simulacrum waves offer a chance to drop Distilled Emotions. However, this method is less efficient than Delirium Maps and requires a robust build due to the increased difficulty.

How To Anoint Items in Path of Exile 2

Currently, in Early Access, you can anoint both Waystones and amulets, with the possibility of more options in future updates. To anoint an amulet, select any Distilled Emotion to access the Instilling window. Place your amulet in the center box and three Distilled Emotions in the bottom boxes. The specific emotions needed for the desired anointing ability are listed in the Passive Skill Tree. You can view these by hovering over a Notable Passive Skill and pressing alt on a keyboard or R3 on a controller.

The skills you choose to anoint will depend on your build, and remember, anointing isn't permanent. You can change the anointed passive skill on an amulet by repeating the process, allowing you to adapt to your current build as needed.

Similarly, you can anoint Waystones to increase their difficulty and improve the loot they provide. However, neither amulets nor Waystones can be anointed if they are corrupted.

With this knowledge, you're equipped to enhance your amulets through anointing, boosting your current build, or challenge yourself by anointing a Waystone in *Path of Exile 2*.

*Path of Exile 2 is available now on PlayStation, Xbox, and PC.*
