Discover the thrill of online chess with Dr. Chess, where you can engage in real-time matches against players from around the globe. Chess, a timeless two-player strategy game, is played on a classic chessboard featuring 64 squares in an 8x8 grid. As one of the world's most beloved games, it attracts millions of enthusiasts, whether they're playing at home, in parks, clubs, online, through correspondence, or in competitive tournaments.
Each game starts with both players commanding an army of 16 pieces: one king, one queen, two rooks, two knights, two bishops, and eight pawns. The uniqueness of chess lies in the distinct movement patterns of each piece type. The ultimate goal is to outmaneuver your opponent and achieve 'checkmate', placing their king under an inescapable threat of capture. Victory can also be secured through the opponent's voluntary resignation, often when significant material loss occurs or when checkmate becomes inevitable.
