A young woman journeys through time to revisit pivotal moments in her family's past.

DOT’S HOME is a single-player, 2D narrative video game that follows a young Black woman in Detroit living in her grandmother's cherished home. Through time travel, she experiences crucial points in her family’s history where race, place, and home intersect in challenging decisions.

As an interactive narrative, DOT’S HOME gives players insight into the harmful systems shaping our connections to race and place, seen through the eyes of those most affected. Players face dilemmas about how and where to live amid issues like redlining, urban renewal, and gentrification, prompting a core question: “How did your family arrive where they are today, and how much freedom did they truly have in that journey?”

DOT’S HOME is a production of the Rise-Home Stories project—a collaboration between multimedia creators and housing and land justice advocates. Over three years, they have worked to reimagine the past, present, and future of our communities by reshaping the stories we share about them.
