The 29 Card Game, sometimes known as the 28 Card Game due to slight rule variations, is a beloved South Asian trick-taking game where the Jack and the Nine reign supreme in each suit.

This engaging game is typically enjoyed by four players, forming fixed partnerships with each partner sitting opposite one another.

For gameplay, a 32-card deck is utilized, derived from a standard 52-card pack. The deck comprises eight cards from each of the traditional "French" suits: hearts, diamonds, clubs, and spades. The card hierarchy within each suit is as follows: J-9-A-10-K-Q-8-7. The objective is to capture tricks that contain high-value cards.

The card values are:

• Jacks: 3 points each
• Nines: 2 points each
• Aces: 1 point each
• Tens: 1 point each
• Other cards (K, Q, 8, 7): no points

This results in a total of 28 points from the cards. In certain versions, an additional point is awarded for winning the last trick, making the total 29 points, hence the game's name. However, many contemporary players omit this point, yet the game retains its name, 29, even when played with 28 points.

Traditionally, the Twos, Threes, Fours, and Fives, which are excluded from the 32-card deck, serve as trump indicators. Each player receives a set of these cards, one for each suit. The Sixes are used to track scores, with each partnership employing one red and one black Six.
